Mundane Life

Well, not much happening the last few days as I've been working. I have ditched the stool I use at work and make sure I walk around the block to and from work, if it is not raining. This has raised my total up a notch.

20th - 4000
21st - 7000
22nd - 5000

weight this morning 11st 8lbs - yippee, I have started to go down again

Back from my hols

Its been a week since my last blog, and that is mainly as I didn't have a lot of internet access when on holiday.

I seem to be raising my steps level, but still not able to reach 10000 steps a day, apart from that one day when on holiday we walked into town.

Yesterdays total was 2000, but as I completed nearly two hours gardening (clearing away grasses and weeds) I gave myself another 6000 for that work.

The two days prior to yesterday, I was back at work and didn't use the stool next to my computer. I also pottered about the house when I got home, tidying and cleaning. This must have made a difference as both days clocked in as 6000.

I currently weigh 11st 9lbs

Hurrah!

Today I'm sat in Rarotonga after having a sucessful step day - yippee

But before that I'll explain that while I haven't reported all my total day's steps recently, I have logged them on my 8 week chart that the 10000 step organisation in Northland sent me.

Yesterdays total was around 7500 as we were travelling to the Cook Islands and obviously walking around the airport can take up a lot of steps especially as I had to retrace them a couple of times to buy a camera I wanted.

Today I have walked 15000 steps, yep, 15 thousand as Stuart and i walked into today, which took a couple of hours - we got the bus back LOL

Walking long way to work and from work and also at lunchtime. These steps amounted to 2400 steps.

Plus 2600 during the rest of the day

Total 5000

Good girl :-)

Yep, pat on the back after yesterdays terrible effort, today I've
stepped 6500 times :-) not bad seeing that apart from walking the
long way to work to and from work, I didn't do anything else different.

Along with the fact I weighed in at 11st 9 this morning. So things are
looking up.

A lazy day

I haven't been totally lazy, just lazy with my steps. Only 3000 today and this is what I suppose would be a 'normal' day before the pedometer.

No walk around the block, no walking around the roads near the house and no extra walking on the spot.

No excuses, I will do better tomorrow :-)

Dissapointing

Went for a walk today and was sad when I checked how many steps I had done at the end as it only read 1600 steps. I had walked for 1/2 hour and further than yesterday. So I'm going to ignore the pedometer for that walk and add another 1400 to my total count which brings it up to 5500.

2 points this makes me think of, 1. Was the pedometer in the wrong place? I had it on my waistband which is quite high and 2. How much more do I have to do to get to 10,000
Steps?

Weighin today at 11st 9lbs whoo hoo

Whangarei

Went for a walk this morning. I had been contemplating it for a few
days so this morning I just hot up and walked around the local roads
2200 steps for just 15-20 mins walk.

Also took dad to Whangarei and although we went to the pictures it
still meant my end of day total was 5500.

That walk this morning made all the difference :-)

Worked more in the shop today

Normally I work out the back sitting down working at the computer so today but today I was working out on the shop floor a bit more and when I left work I had already walked 4500 steps.

I've been pretty sedimentary since then and only walked another 1000 steps.

I have also worked out today and walking in a straight line, my pedometer is pretty accurate - I walked 200 and it measured 198.

Total steps 5500

Bad choice of shoes

4100 steps, didn't do as many steps as I wanted as I was wearing my
boots with a heel and my feet hurt :-( tomorrow I'll make sure my feet
are
In some good shoes and I'll keep a pair of trainers in the car for
those days I want to wear my boots. So putting this down to a learning
curve and will learn from it.

Disaster of a Pedometer Day

Forgot to wear my pedometer today and only out it on about 3pm. I'm very disappointed but still parked in the furthest corner of the car park and walked more than I usually would.

So I'm going to estimate my walking today:

Getting up and breakfast 300
Walking around Kerikeri and other shops (Car > Spa Pool place > Mitre 10 > Posh Nosh > Back to car) 2300

I have walked 1600 since putting it on from 3.oo - 8.00.

Total 4200

Activity but not step count on Pedometer

Todays count is 3500 but not sure if this is a true count of the amount of activity I have done today.

8.30 - 10.30 I spent tidying the kitchen and had completed approx 1500
10.30 - 11.30 eating breakfast - no steps taken
11.30 - 3.00 Decluttering and preping for painting a cupboard
3.00 - 4.15 Lunch
4.30 - 6.30 Painting
6.30 - 9.30 Computer work.

Looking at this breakdown it is obvious why my pedometer reads 3500, so I guess I am going to have to find time in my day to walk more......

Hazel wiggles

So today I have stepped a whopping 7500 steps today. I going to round up slightly (200) as I noticed that after I got up, fed the cats, made and eaten breakfast and gone back upstairs to dress, my pedometer only said 12 steps today :-(

The pedometer also doesn't allow for all those side ways movements you make in a day, you know those ones where you are making dinner, looking at stuff in a shop so I wonder if an allowance can be made for this also? 10% maybe?

I have called this post "Hazel wiggles" as Hazel thought I could shake my booty and that will count for steps. I told her that side ways movements are not logged but after trying it I was proved wrong, and it also made me tense my stomach muscles too :-) so I'm gonna let them count ;-)

I also walked the long way to and from work and also walked around the block at lunchtime too. Yeahhh me!

Weigh in

12 stone - scary and heaviest I've ever been.

10,000 steps in two days

Yesterday I did 6500 steps and today 4300 steps.

I think that yesterdays total was higher as I did more running around on the spot. I also forgot to wear my pedometer when I was out in the garden sawing the ivy tree down. That would have counted for something. Although today I did walk around the block at lunchtime.

I will try and walk around the block three times tomorrow, from the car to work, at lunchtime and back to the car after work.

Classification of pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults

Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke has been studying pedometer walking and released an opinion in the January, 2004 issue of "Sports Medicine."

Classification of pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults:

1) Under 5000 steps/day may be used as a "sedentary lifestyle index"
2) 5,000-7,499 steps/day is typical of daily activity excluding sports/exercise and might be considered "low active."
3) 7,500-9,999 likely includes some exercise or walking (and/or a job that requires more walking) and might be considered "somewhat active."
4) 10,000 steps/day indicates the point that should be used to classify individuals as "active".
5) Individuals who take more than 12,500 steps/day are likely to be classified as "highly active".

A new blog and a new start?

About two weeks ago I lent my pedometer to my husband for him to lose it a few days later :-(

So I went out to buy another and started to wear it again (for I had forgotten to wear it for a couple of months).

This made me think of the 10,000 steps which people are advised to walk each day and so I registered to a couple of sites to see if this can help.

So where am I now? I have been counting my steps for a week and thought it time to blog my progress.
